Week 7

Wow, what a great first week we have had together.

Everyone was happy and ready to get back into school life.

We have loved hearing about all the fun family times that when on in your bubbles.

Over this last week we spent a lot of time talking about how our students found learning at home. It was really exciting to hear how many of the students really understand how they learn, and when they learn best. We have taken on board this feedback from our students and we are planning to implement some of these suggestions. There are some very common themes coming out!

We have had a lot more students bring devices to school this week. This has been great as we are going to continue to have supportive material on our website each week to reflect the learning we are doing in the classroom. These devices are kept in the classroom and can only be used when directed by the teachers. If your child has a device that they are able to bring to school this would help their learning going forward. If you are looking to purchase one, please get in touch for some advice around what works best in our school environment. The most expensive device is not always the best!

Please remember:
  • Students need all their own stationery, including colouring pencils
  • ALL clothing needs to be named
  • Drink bottle each day
If you have any newspaper at home, please can we have some!

At assembly today we gave out our school values tops. I just want to assure you all that these have been washed and individually bagged before being handed out.

Here are some photos from our learning this week:

It has been amazing to be all back together again!

Week 6 WELCOME BACK!

WELCOME BACK WHĀNAU!
We are so excited to have you all back this week. We are ready to see all your smiling faces and reconnect.

So what do you need to know:

  • Every child will need to bring a drink bottle each day as the drinking fountains will not be accessible.
  • Please make sure you talk with your child about hand washing and they are aware of how to do this probably.
  • Please make sure you child has all the stationary they need for learning, like whiteboard makers, pencils, felts, colouring pencils as we will not be allowing students to use our school supplies.
  • No sunhats this term.
  • Please make sure all your items of clothing are named clearly.
Pick up and drop off:
We are sure that you have read the all the detailed information that Juliana has sent out about the procedures for coming back to school in Alert Level 2. Children are expected to be dropped off and picked up at the gate each day. We know that this will be hard for some students and parents as some of you maybe a bit nervous about coming back. If needed you can come down to the team, but you will need to sign in at the office and if there are a lot of you at once this may take awhile.
At the end of the day we will walk your child down to the gate and have them waiting for you. We will send them out to you when you arrive, but you must come across, for safety reasons, so your child does not cross the road with out you.

If your child has a device we ask that they bring it to school for formal learning each day.

Week 5

Welcome to week 5. Hopefully we will be back at school together next week!

Week 5 Home Learning:
  • This weeks learning is updated on the website.
  • Writing this week is around creating your own SuperHero.
  • For Maths we are still focusing on revisions of basic facts and number knowledge.
  • Hayley and her son Aston have a challenge for you on the sharing page.
  • We have no new CHILL challenge as only a few students did the scratch challenge from last week, so this is still there to be done.
  • Zoom story time is still happening everyday at 11am. This has been an awesome time for students to connect and have time to chat with their friends, and for us as teachers, it helps us to all stay connected.
  • Keep reading the school doc notices that Juliana is sending out as these will give you all the updated information on what is happening around the school going to Alert Level 2.

Keep connecting with each other and we hope to see you all soon!

The canoe which we are all in without exception

What do you need to know going into next week:
  • Monday is a holiday ANZAC Day
  • Tuesday is Teacher Only Day as we plan and preparing for those students who are returning to school at Alert 3
  • Wednesday - school open for those that have told Juliana that they are returning. We cannot have anyone just turning up as we have very strict rules around how school needs to function with allowing space and number of people in team spaces.
  • Our website with learning for next week will go live on Tuesday afternoon
  • Zoom storytime will be each school day at 11am starting Wednesday.
Embrace the nice weather over this weekend and enjoy this time, before we know it we will be back to our normal busy lives.

Week 9

Kia ora Whānau

Just to let you know that we are all thinking of you.

Please get in touch if there is anything you need help, clarification or support with over this week.
The work we have sent home is to support you at home, but just remember that we know at this time it is just do what you need to do to support you and your family.

As you have all been informed, the school holidays now officially starts this Friday and will be for the next two weeks. After this we will have more work available for you online. But again family time comes first, if you can do nothing else, then reading and basic facts would be a great thing to be doing regularly.

Spelling:
Your child will either have a Wordlab booklet or Heart words.
These are words that can be hard to sound out, especially the Heart Words, so this is a great time for your child to learn these. There is a range of ways to do this. Please see the sheet below for ideas around different ways to learn spelling.

Also you can do:
  • Bubble words e.g the letters are shaped like a bubble
  • Putting our words into sentences
  • Rainbow words e.g each letter is a different colour (Letter)
  • Playdough, make your words out of playdough
  • Cutting letters our of a magazine and creating the words
  • Putting them in alphabetical order

Playdough Recipe

The Best Homemade Playdough Recipe
Prep Time5 mins
Cook Time5 mins
Total Time10 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar (if you don't have this use a squeeze of lemon)
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil Olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • food colouring

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine all of your dry ingredients (flour, salt, cream of tartar) and mix well.
  • Mix food colouring with your water first. Then add the vegetable oil and water with food colouring to a large pot. Mix together.
  • Add the dry ingredients to your pot and mix well.
  • Cook over low to medium heat until the dough starts to form and becomes dry.
  • Once it starts to form a ball together and looks fully cooked, take off the heat. Let the dough cool first before touching.
  • Once cool, knead the dough for 5 minutes to make the dough soft.

Below is a link on letter formation. It is important that students can form their letters correctly starting from the right point to start with. Great if you have younger siblings, get them doing it!

Please see attached information from Mr. B, our Thursday PE teacher about ideas for staying fit and active while at home.

PE At Home Resources

What’s up students and parents!

I hope everyone is staying safe out there and I will miss teaching you in PE class while we are not at school, but the good news is you already have all the skills, tools and knowledge you need to keep your body healthy.

I hope you can use all that we’ve learned in PE this year to stay active each day and if it’s safe and the weather is nice you could even try to get outside and play in your yards to keep yourselves active.

I’ve included some daily workouts for you to try out and also linked up a ton of resources and activities that you can check out if you get bored or need a fun activity to do.

If you want, you can have your parents tag me on Twitter or Instagram @thePEspecialist if you are working on any of these activities, I’d love to connect with you and see what you are up to.

Other than the daily workout and skill review options provided in this packet, you can find lots of additional ideas linked on the last page:

Optional Skills Review

If you have any of the equipment below (frisbee, ball, jump rope, balloon etc), you can practice reviewing or working on any of the skills that we’ve learned in PE class this year.

Stay Safe, Have Fun and Keep Yourself Active!
