Week 9

Kia ora Whānau

Just to let you know that we are all thinking of you.

Please get in touch if there is anything you need help, clarification or support with over this week.
The work we have sent home is to support you at home, but just remember that we know at this time it is just do what you need to do to support you and your family.

As you have all been informed, the school holidays now officially starts this Friday and will be for the next two weeks. After this we will have more work available for you online. But again family time comes first, if you can do nothing else, then reading and basic facts would be a great thing to be doing regularly.

Spelling:
Your child will either have a Wordlab booklet or Heart words.
These are words that can be hard to sound out, especially the Heart Words, so this is a great time for your child to learn these. There is a range of ways to do this. Please see the sheet below for ideas around different ways to learn spelling.

Also you can do:
  • Bubble words e.g the letters are shaped like a bubble
  • Putting our words into sentences
  • Rainbow words e.g each letter is a different colour (Letter)
  • Playdough, make your words out of playdough
  • Cutting letters our of a magazine and creating the words
  • Putting them in alphabetical order

Playdough Recipe

The Best Homemade Playdough Recipe
Prep Time5 mins
Cook Time5 mins
Total Time10 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar (if you don't have this use a squeeze of lemon)
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil Olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • food colouring

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine all of your dry ingredients (flour, salt, cream of tartar) and mix well.
  • Mix food colouring with your water first. Then add the vegetable oil and water with food colouring to a large pot. Mix together.
  • Add the dry ingredients to your pot and mix well.
  • Cook over low to medium heat until the dough starts to form and becomes dry.
  • Once it starts to form a ball together and looks fully cooked, take off the heat. Let the dough cool first before touching.
  • Once cool, knead the dough for 5 minutes to make the dough soft.

Below is a link on letter formation. It is important that students can form their letters correctly starting from the right point to start with. Great if you have younger siblings, get them doing it!

Please see attached information from Mr. B, our Thursday PE teacher about ideas for staying fit and active while at home.

PE At Home Resources

What’s up students and parents!

I hope everyone is staying safe out there and I will miss teaching you in PE class while we are not at school, but the good news is you already have all the skills, tools and knowledge you need to keep your body healthy.

I hope you can use all that we’ve learned in PE this year to stay active each day and if it’s safe and the weather is nice you could even try to get outside and play in your yards to keep yourselves active.

I’ve included some daily workouts for you to try out and also linked up a ton of resources and activities that you can check out if you get bored or need a fun activity to do.

If you want, you can have your parents tag me on Twitter or Instagram @thePEspecialist if you are working on any of these activities, I’d love to connect with you and see what you are up to.

Other than the daily workout and skill review options provided in this packet, you can find lots of additional ideas linked on the last page:

Optional Skills Review

If you have any of the equipment below (frisbee, ball, jump rope, balloon etc), you can practice reviewing or working on any of the skills that we’ve learned in PE class this year.

Kia ora whānau,

Our thoughts are with everyone at this strange time and we are working with your children to help make sense of the emotions they are going through.

What you need to know for next week:

Tuesday: Mufti day- bring an easter egg instead to a gold coin to support City Mission during the easter period.

Friday: Sausage Sizzle.

Hayley Powell is not in our team at the moment, so we have Lynn Moffitt working in here as our teacher aide.

Week 8

Week 8:

What's happening this week:
  • Tuesday Triathlon: Racers start at 11am, at Rice Park. Please make sure your child has all the gear needed for them to compete.
  • Gala Friday: Please put your name down for baking, if you haven't already. This is the PTA's request from our team families.
  • No assembly next week due to the Gala.
Devices: We are using more devices throughout the day for learning and for upcoming seesaw posts. If you have one at home that your child can bring to school it will take the pressure of our limited supplies of devices that we have in Tūhura.

Have an amazing weekend!

Week 7

Kia ora whānau,

We hope everyone is well. Autumn already! Where is the year going?

This term for Inquiry we are looking at 'Change':
Here are some photos from our science session. We showed how we can turn cream and salt into butter.

Here's what you need to know:

• Triathlon Bike training Lunch time Wednesday 11th: Molly will be taking Tūhura children for a practice bike along Heywards road. This gives them a chance to experience what the bike will be like on the day of the Triathlon. Must bring HELMET, BIKE and High Vis (if you have one).

Wheels days: These are Monday- Wednesday and are days for children to bring scooters, skateboards. Please note that Heelys can only be worn on these days and require helmets.

• Lost hat: Please check school hats at home to ensure they have your child's name on them. Casen Shaw has lost his.

• The enviro group are still on the look out for a keen gardener!

Gala Bake sale:
As you all know the Gala is fast approaching, once again this year Tuhura families are asked if they could please contribute to the bake sale

It would be great if every child from Tuhura could provide something to be sold at Gala, this could be some cookies, a cake, slice, fudge or even some chutney or jam, the options are endless, it would be appreciated if there could be some gluten-free items also.

We ask that you could support us by making sure these items are packaged ready for sale, if not we can support this. All items will need to be dropped to the MPF by Friday 20th  March by 9 am, please.

A list will go up on the classroom door, if you could please add your name and item of baking you are doing, this provides us with an idea of what to expect on the day and to make sure we get a good range of baking to sell

If you have any questions please get in touch
Jess - 027 509 2491

Thanks
Jess
